This Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10 and 11, is the 2019 Club Championship with over 130 members registered to compete. The Club Championship is divided into divisions for Women, Men, Senior, Super Senior (70 and older) and Junior, with champions declared in all categories. The event features a fantastic barbecue following Saturdays round on the deck. Tournament play is a great way to measure your competitiveness, challenge yourself to focus the entire round and often get to play with people you might not ordinarily do so.
A derby featuring the top 10 men and women will be held on Saturday in a team format, which is always fun for players and gallery alike.
This year’s Governor’s Cup was a huge success at Whitefish Lake Golf Club with Tim Olson and his staff going out of their way to ensure the best possible welcome to all the players and former Montana State Governors. Former Governor Stan Stephens once again participated in the five person scramble. Stan has been a constant in the Governor’s Cup from its inception. Bringing in all these corporations to the valley by the Chamber of Commerce is always a benefit to the community. Hats off to our restaurant staff as well for handling all the added guests for the tournament.
Always Start Behind the Ball
A good repeatable pre-shot routine is essential for consistent play. Part of the pre-shot routine is to visualize the shot and flight of the ball that you desire while you stand behind the ball. Watch better players as they enter their pre-shot routine, nearly all of them start from this position. I encourage a rehearsal swing, one that replicates the actual swing you intend to make and not just a casual motion. Move into position by lining up the club and then taking your proper stance. If you do this, you should feel comfortable and ready to commit to the shot and swing with confidence. I would add that you should do all this preparation but also be ready when it is your turn so as not to delay a good pace of play.
