Whitefish swimmers got back in the pool last week at the Missoula Invitational.

Overall, the girls took sixth and the boys fourth in the competitive meet.

Head coach Emily Von Jentzen said she was pleased with how her team performed.

“The swimmers had an amazing meet,” she said. “We saw 80 percent best times at the meet, which is a really great testament to how hard the kids have been working at practice. “

Annie Sullivan led the way for the girls, finishing fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:31.19) and the 100 breaststroke (1:18.54). Helena Kunz added a fifth place in the 100 butterfly (1:11.69) and a sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:01.87) as well.

For the boys, the swimming of Alex Stein led the way.

Stein finished with a second in the 500 freestyle (5:32.80) and a sixth in the 100 freestyle (55.02).

Matthew Perez came in fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:23.27) and seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:00.57), just behind fifth-place Preston Ring (58.68).

Zachary Meadows also came in sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:30.83).

Von Jentzen said she feels good with how her team is performing as they move into the second half of the season.

“We are five weeks out from the state championship meet and have a competition every weekend in January,” she said. “The swimmers have three more weeks of hard training leading into our taper for state and Coach Savannah and I are very happy with how both teams have been swimming thus far in the season.”

This weekend the Bulldogs will host the Dog-Cat Invite at The WAVE. That will start on Saturday at noon.
