Lady Dogs go 1-2 in opening week

A second-half hat trick from sophomore Anna Cook led the Lady Dogs to a 6-1 opening win against Bigfork last week.

Josephine Brown, Pixie Moore and Olivia Pothoff also added to the scoring with a goal apiece in the win.

However, the pieces are still coming together for the Lady Bulldogs early in the season.

Whitefish is off to a 1-2 start after falling to Park-Livingston and Belgrade over the weekend.

“We lost both games but we competed,” head coach Roland Benedict said of the weekend games. “Out of our starting lineup we’ve got about eight or nine of 11 playing out of position this year, so it’s going to be an interesting learning curve.”

Whitefish fell to Park 2-1 and Belgrade 3-0.

Benedict said there were highlights even in the weekend’s losses, and with a little more experience the team will start hitting their stride.

“We had moments of fantastic play and moments of quality and moments where we got a little lost in that game [against Belgrade]. That just comes with experience,” he said. “All those little things add up. We’re just going to keep moving forward.”

Whitefish was set to take on Libby Tuesday, but that game was canceled because of wildfire smoke. The game has been rescheduled for Sept. 19.

They’ll also host Billings Central on Friday at 5 p.m. and Laurel at noon on Saturday. Both games will be played at Smith Fields.
