Boys split at Cut Bank

The Whitefish boys tennis team got a chance at some teams from the East over the weekend, splitting four matches at the Cut Bank Invitational.

The Bulldogs swept both Cut Bank and Troy 7-0, but fell to Havre and Fergus at the tournament.

“I think overall we got a lot of time on the court and made some gains,” head coach Chris Schwaderer said. “I feel better about the team overall even through we didn’t necessarily win it all.”

Schwaderer pointed to the play of his No. 1 doubles as an area where he’s seeing rapid improvement. That doubles team has been anchored by sophomore Brendan Buls while upperclassmen like Thomas Carloss or Eric Holdhusen rotate around.

Finding the right pairings with the most chemistry is the priority at this point in the season, Schwaderer said.

“I think just in general, I’m starting to play around with different configurations and finding different chemistry that works,” he said. “I think that those teams are going to sort themselves out.”

“More than anything, when we get the kids together and work on that chemistry we’re working on getting them to communicate and move and get a sense of what the other one is doing,” he added.

Whitefish has a full week of practice ahead of them before traveling to Libby on Saturday. A makeup match against Libby will be scheduled after Thursday’s match was canceled by weather.
